The answer to a lot of the challenges you might face with your product is in selecting the right material from the very start. Plastics are an ideal solution to creating infant products but not all of them have been FDA-approved as food-grade materials (for products that will come into contact with consumers’ mouths see 21 CFR 177.2600) and not all of them are USP Class VI compliant materials (for external body contact).
When it comes to FDA-approved and USP Class VI compliance, silicone really shines through. It’s suitable for food-products, infant-friendly products and even in medical devices.
Silicone is also shatterproof and non-toxic (it’s BPA-free). Because it is hypoallergenic it’s especially useful in manufacturing bibs, bottles, pacifiers, teethers, and more for infants. We have a number of partners who contract us to product silicone products for infants including Baby Banana Brush, the Brushies and Mason Bottle.
Silicone is also:
- Extremely temperature resistant
- Chemical resistant
- Microwave and freezer-safe
- Unlikely to fade
